Prairie Lakes Coop History
Today, Prairie Lakes Coop continues to be rich with the commitment to the cooperative system. In 1999, Farmers Union Oil and Midwest Consolidated (pervious merger of the Starbuck Creamery and Cyrus Farmers Elevator) combined, forming Prairie Lakes Coop, with locations in Glenwood, Starbuck and Cyrus. In September 2003, CHS- Lowry joined PLC, producing an avenue for the company to ship grain out of a state of the art 100+ rail car loading site in Glenwood. At this time, Prairie Lakes Coop also became a regionalized business unit of CHS, Inc. Hoffman Co-operative Oil Association expanded the Prairie Lakes Coop trade territory to the north-east with addition of the Hoffman location in February 2004. The newest merger between two Prairie Lakes Coop business units in 2005 creates a cooperative with facilities in eight communities, Cyrus, Hoffman, Elrosa, Lowry, Long Prairie, Park Rapids, Glenwood, and Starbuck. Today patrons of Prairie Lakes Coop utilize products and services through agronomy, energy and grain divisions.
