Pope 4-H Awarded PrairieLakes Coop Grant for the Green Team
The PopeCounty 4-H recently received a $200 grant from Prairie Lakes Coop as part of the company's Community Pride 4-H Grant Program.
PopeCounty 4-H was selected from a number of local applying 4-H counties and club to receive the $200 grant. The 4-H Leadership grant is intended to assist 4-H clubs / counties in promoting youth leadership, community development, and agricultural awareness.
The PopeCounty 4-H will be using the $200 grant for the Green Team which allows youth to learn leadership skills. "The Green Team is made up of junior high and high school age 4-H members whose initial purpose was to promote 4-H at the fair during Kid's Day. The vision is to make the Green Team a youth group that allows 4-Hers to explore their leadership skills, talents, and interests as well as promote 4-H. The Green Team already meets many of the 8 Keys of Quality Youth Development for these youth: Youth feel physically and emotionally safe, experience belonging and ownership, develop self-worth through meaningful contribution, quality relationships with peers and adults, discuss conflicting values and form their own, feel pride and accountability that comes with mastery, expand their capacity to enjoy life and know that success is possible, and discover self," says Jody Koubsky, Pope County 4-H Program Coordinator.
Applying 4-H counties/clubs had to indicate their plans for the 4-H grant money, supply general information about the club/county, project, and propose of the request, along with specific financial needs.
"The increasing need for occupation in agriculture makes a variety of agricultural career options possible. Our goal is to encourage more young people to pursue these careers," says Tim Harvey, Prairie Lakes Coop board and scholarship committee member.

Grant County 4-H Awarded Prairie Lakes Coop Grant
The Grant County 4-H recently received a $500 grant from Prairie Lakes Coop as part of the company's Community Pride 4-H Grant Program.
Grant County 4-H was selected from a number of local applying 4-H counties and club to receive the $500 grant. The 4-H Leadership grant is intended to assist 4-H clubs / counties in promoting youth leadership, community development, and agricultural awareness.
The Grant County 4-H will be using the $500 grant to provide a shelter on the ATVSafetyPark. "We need this shelter to provide a place where youth and adults can gather to learn the classroom portions of the education we will be providing. We will conduct ATV Safety Training sessions, ASI Certifications, and DNR ATV certifications on this site for both youth and adults," says Ranae Edwards, Grant County 4-H Program Coordinator.
The site is located on 4 acres in Delaware township, 8 miles south on State Highway 54 on 170th Street.

Borgerding, Roelike, Ronhovde Win Prairie Lakes Coop Scholarships
Adam Borgerding, Patrick Roelike, and Mitch Ronhovde recently each received a $500 scholarship from Prairie Lakes Coop as part of the company's Community Pride scholarship program. Borgerding, Roelike, and Ronhovde are the high school seniors given scholarships on behalf of Prairie Lakes Coop member owners for 2007. Borgerding is the son of Marvin and Ginny Borgerding, of Brooten. He plans to study Agriculture and Bio-Systems Engineering at North Dakota State University. Roelike is the son of Butch and Sandra Roelike, of Belgrade. He plans on attending St. Cloud Tech majoring his studies in Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. Ronhovde is the son of Todd and Sheila Ronhovde, of Barrett. He plans to study Agricultural Management at North Dakota State College of Science. Long Prairie -Grey Eagle Wins FFA Grant from Prairie Lakes Coop
The Long Prairie -Grey Eagle FFA Chapter recently received a $500 grant from Prairie Lakes Coop as part of the company's Community Pride FFA Grant program FFA Chapters.
Long Prairie - Grey Eagle FFA Chapter was selected from a number of local applying FFA Chapters to receive the $500 grant to provide more in depth leadership experiences for FFA members.
Keith Olander, Agricultural Education Instructor at Long Prairie - Grey Eagle, states in the application: "The FFA Leadership Goal for this grant money is to provided intensive and in-depth leadership training for FFA officers, provide members an opportunity to connect with other FFA members from across the state and nation, and to receive new ideas and programs to assist in executing the LPGE Chapter's Program of Activities"
Applying Chapters had to indicate their plans for the FFA grant money, supply general information about the school, project, and propose of the request, along with specific financial needs. LP-GE FFA Chapter members will be attending several FFA leadership conferences during the course of this upcoming summer. Chapters members will be attending State Leadership Conference for Chapter Leaders and State Greenhand Leadership Conference both lead at Minnesota Conservation Reserves, as well as, Washington Leadership Conference, held in Washington DC.

Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Awarded Prairie Lakes Coop Grant
The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Agricultural Department recently received a $500 grant from Prairie Lakes Coop as part of the company's Community Pride School Inspiration Grant Program. BBE was selected from a number of local applying schools to receive the $500 grant. The School Inspiration grant is aimed at assisting local elementary and secondary schools in the process of developing leadership, community wellbeing, and enriching education opportunities.

The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Agricultural Department will be using the grant money to update BBE's "Small Gas Engine" curriculum, and purchasing new textbooks. "These textbooks will fill a great void in the Small Engines Classroom," says Gary Rodgers Agricultural Department Instructor, "Over the next 10 years, over 200 students will have benefited from this update."
